HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Local entertainer Irie Love is preparing for a significant career milestone: joining the legendary group The Wailers on their UK tour.
“I’ve been really struggling with the idea of not feeling as excited as I feel like I should be, because family, friends, supporters have just been over the moon about this news,” Love said.
“For me, I think, just shoutout to all the artists out there who are in the trenches trying to continue to create art, because the business part of it is brutal, and so to get these opportunities when you’ve been working for so long, for so hard, and lots of rejection, lots of failed opportunities, things falling through at the last minute, I think for me, I’ve kind of just gotten to the point where I’m going to be in the emotions once I arrive, and giving myself grace for that,” she said.
It’s a busy weekend for Love. She dropped a new song, “Boundaries,” on Friday, and performed at Blue Note Hawaii that evening. Two days later, she boards a plan to London to prepare for the tour.
Love is also writing a book about her musical journey and growing up in Hawaii.
“I’ve been working on this book, just trying to write the book that I would have wanted to have access to when I was up and coming, and also just to share my journey, because I think nowadays, people really like to understand the story behind whoever they are appreciating the art from,” Love said.
“Then also, growing up in Hawaii is such a unique experience that I think a lot of people fantasize about, and so I want to also share the beauty of that magic that instilled in me to make me who I am, so giving love to Hawaii through the book,” she added.
